Otorhinolaryngology

The field of Otorhinolaryngology focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting the ears, nose, and throat. It is commonly referred to as ENT (ear, nose, and throat). An otorhinolaryngologist specializes in treating ear diseases, such as hearing loss, tinnitus, and balance disorders; nose diseases, such as sinusitis and allergies; and throat diseases, such as laryngitis and tonsillitis.

In order to diagnose and treat disorders of the ear, nose, and throat, otolaryngologists utilize a variety of techniques. Examinations may include physical examinations, endoscopies, computed tomography scans, magnetic resonance imaging scans, and x-rays. As a part of treating ear diseases, otolaryngologists often use hearing tests and drug treatments. Additionally, they may perform surgery to correct certain ENT problems.
